At Butts By Design, we do not perform or recommend butt injections.
The term ‘butt injections’ commonly refers to injecting free-flowing liquid silicone into the buttock. These injections are NOT FDA-approved and have the potential to cause serious long-term complications.
The FDA approved liquid silicone fillers for the face in the 1950s. The fillers did an amazing job of volumizing the face and restoring symmetry. However, the negatives soon became apparent.
Liquid silicone fillers have a risk of becoming infected and creating multiple draining wounds that never heal unless the silicone is removed. Unfortunately, liquid silicone integrates with the surrounding tissue and cannot be separated. The only way to remove it is by surgically cutting out the area where the filler was injected. This results in a “shark-bite” appearance.
The moral of this story: liquid silicone fillers are a terrible idea. Never use these fillers anywhere in your body.
There are fillers that may be injected into the butt, none are FDA-approved for this purpose, and each type has significant drawbacks.
The most common injection material is poly-L-lactic acid (brand name Sculptra). In our experience, this injectable material does not produce substantial or significant differences for buttock augmentation.
Hyaluronic acid fillers, which are typically used as facial fillers, may be utilized in the buttock. However, a significant amount of filler is needed (at least 100mL per side), and that means a significant cost for a product that lasts roughly one to two years. The high price (minimum $100,000) makes this treatment an unreasonable option for most individuals.
On average, you need 350cc per side to see a reasonable difference.
Our favorite technique for butt enhancement is fat transfer to the buttocks (a Brazilian butt lift or BBL). Implant augmentation is an option for patients who do not qualify for a BBL.
